Hi everyone. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE all of you to watch this video.
It deals with the commonly held belief, or should I say illusion, that most people “fail” in affiliate marketing, MLM, and network marketing. I couldn’t agree more with what this video has to say. People don’t “fail,” people quit, or even worse, they never even get started.
Let me tell you what I’ve learned about what it takes to succeed in anything in life, and trust me when I say I’ve had to learn these lessons the hard way, as I’ve wasted many opportunities in my youth to achieve great success in many fields.
90% of success is taking the first step. That is where the overwhelming vast majority of people fail. They get all excited about something they want to do or achieve, but then when it comes time to actually work for it, they never even get started. They plan, think, dream, and fantasize about all the success they are going to have and all the money they are going to make, but that’s about all they ever do. They just dream about it.
I can’t say for sure why everyone does this, but I know for most people it’s because the dreams and fantasies of success are much more pleasing and comfortable than facing the actual work involved to achieve those dreams and make those fantasies reality. I guess each person needs to ask themselves what they want more. Do you want to stay in a fantasy that is fun to think about, or do you want to work to make that fantasy reality?
After taking that first step, which 90% of people fail to do regardless of how badly they say they want something, it then becomes an issue of persistence and modification. What do I mean by this? Well, obviously persistence is continuing to do something until you succeed, but is persistence in itself enough? NO!!! If you’re doing something and it’s not working at all, you need to change your approach. You must study and analyze why what you’re doing is failing and modify your game plan.
When I first started marketing online, I started with an ebook that I wrote. It was a great ebook, but I failed horrifically because I had no idea how to market online. I did the MySpace thing for hours a day, wrote tons of content articles for ezines, did forum marketing, classified ads, EBay, and Amazon. Do you know how many copies I sold? One.
Now, I could have thrown in the towel and just said, “Well, I tried and failed, so I guess this online marketing thing isn’t for me.” However, I said, “OK, I’m obviously doing something wrong, so how can I change this to achieve my goal?”
That is when I realized two things. First, selling ebooks wasn’t for me, and second, I SERIOUSLY needed to change my marketing strategies. That is when I got into GDI. I totally changed my approach and in less than three months I was second on the GDI leader board without spending any money on marketing at all. And even then, it didn’t happen immediately. I didn’t make the GDI leader board for the first month, but I stuck with it, continued to modify my approach, and eventually was signing up as many as 55 people a week (40 active) before deciding to no longer promote the company.
You could even go so far as to say that even though I succeeded with GDI, I actually failed due to the fact that I could no longer continue promoting it because of the moral conflict within me of recruiting people to a business I strongly felt they would fail at and that was totally designed to serve the owners first and the common man and woman last, but instead of giving up and just saying, “Well, I guess I just can’t have success in MLM because of my morals, so I may as well just quit,” I created my own business that would allow me to continue having success without any moral conflict.
So what did I do? First, I got over my fears and apprehensions and took the first step. Second, even after HORRIFICALLY failing, I stuck with it. Third, I didn’t just stick with it, but I continually modified my approach until I achieved success.
This is how you do it guys. There is no magic potion or formula. There is no shortcut to success. There is no replacement for hard work and intelligent thought. There is no other way to succeed than to throw yourself into something, stick with it, learn while you go, and continually modify your approach until you reach your desired results. Think it over, and then ask yourself where what you’re doing right now will get you.
I’ll share something with you that is the mindset that now guides my actions everyday, because as I said above, I wasted so many opportunities for immense success from the age of 17 to 26, and I’ve made up my mind that it will never happen again. At the top of my computer I have written, “Is this getting you to where you want to be? If you stay on your present course, where will you be in 5, 10, 20 years?”
You see, the point in time of 5, 10, or 20 years from now is coming. You can’t stop it. It’s going to come and you’re going to be there. The question is, what situation will you be in when that time arrives? Will you be exactly where you are now because you’ve done nothing to progress? Will you be in an even worse position because you’ve made horrible decisions to destroy your life? Or will you be where you want to be, living the life you want to live because you took the first step on your road to success, stuck with it, learned as much as you could along the way, and then constantly applied that knowledge to your next course of action?
Every single second of every single day holds infinite power to radically transform your life forever. You have the power to get married, to decide you’ll never touch alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs again, to decide to be a dedicated parent, to dedicate yourself to improving your health, to follow the true desires and passions of your heart, etc. However, you also have the power to jump off a bridge to your death, to destroy your life with drugs and alcohol, to cheat on your spouse and destroy your marriage, to let your kids run wild without proper direction and destroy your relationship with them, etc.
Do you see my point? Every second of every day holds infinite power to change your life forever in whichever direction you want it to go. So I ask you, is what you’re doing getting you to where you want to be? If you stay on your present course, where will you be in 5, 10, 20 years? That point in time is coming whether you’re ready for it or not.
The choice is yours, but just remember that you don’t “fail” in life, you quit. As long as you learn from not achieving a goal you set out to accomplish and use what you’ve learned to properly modify your game plan and keep going, there is no such thing as failure. The only time you will ever “fail” in life is when you either never get started, or you say, “I quit.”
Thanks,
James
